If you’re a small business and you’ve been thinking about trying out advertising on Facebook, now’s a great time, because Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg is offering small businesses $50 worth of advertising credits for free. An impressive total of ten million dollars worth of advertising credits will be divvied up amongst up to 200,000 small businesses.
While many small businesses – about a third, to be more precise – recognize that Facebook can be a valuable tool for business promotion, and with a third of all U.S. based businesses having a presence on Facebook, most of the small businesses in particular are using Facebook’s free features (such as pages) only. Currently only a few hundred thousand businesses are taking advantage of paid advertisements.
Facebook is hoping to get 200,000 more businesses on board with their advertising program, which offers more than basic PPC options. A large-scale “word-of-mouth marketing” is Facebook’s approach to advertisement, according to Sandberg.
