Last Friday Google revealed “How Search Works” through an interactive infographic. Google explains how search engines crawl and sort through pages based on content and “other factors” as well as explaining algorithms and how the team fights spam. This entertaining infographic walks the user through a step by step guide to gain an understanding of how search really works.
Learning Google’s search methods is interesting but what really caught my eye was how the Google team deals with spam. If you look through the infographic where it says, “we fight spam”, there is an option “see what we’ve removed lately”. A new screen opens indicating 52 examples of what Google consider spam and has removed from SERPS.
Google also explains how they take action against spam and how they “attempt to let the site owner know”. They also give the site owner a chance to remove the problem and let Google know for an opportunity to be re-indexed by Google. Who else found this infographic to be quite interesting?
