At SEOwhat.com, we live by the mantra of “best bang for your buck” and this carries over in all areas we work with and optimize for. Although your rankings may go up in Bing or Yahoo, we only optimize for Google as they currently (10/2009) capture 65-70% of the search engine market share. To optimize for Bing or Yahoo, the cost of our packages would have to increase approximately 50-75% for only capturing an additional 20% of the market share that more than often copies Google’s strategies. This isn’t to say we “give up” on Bing and Yahoo, just that they are followers in this category and rankings tend to closely mirror those of Google’s and therefore from a purely mathematical and financial standpoint, it makes little sense to optimize for all. Obviously there are always rare cases or certain exclusive sites that may want to optimize for one of the big 3 search sites and we will always work and advise accordingly on a case by case basis.
In keeping with this “best bang for your buck” mantra, we also only optimize our website redesigns, new websites, and functionality towards current and projected future OS and Internet Browsers market leaders. As of October 2009, Microsoft’s operating systems are currently the market leaders and therefore we optimize for Windows XP, Vista, and will shortly begin optimizing for Windows 7.
On the browser front, we focus on Firefox and the most recent versions of Internet Explorer (IE) as these two browsers command nearly 90% of the browser market share as of October 2009. The two versions of IE we focus on are IE 7 and 8 as these browsers command 65-70% of the IE browser market share, with IE 8 rapidly increasing. We DO NOT focus on IE 6 as it currently (10/2009) only commands 10% of the browser market share and is slowly decreasing. Just as previously mentioned above, we can and will work with any client on a case by case basis to better serve their customers OS, Browser, and Search Engine needs to better suit them such as Chrome and Safari for Windows.
